Living in a twilight world
I can't stand Trump, Trump supporters, Never-Trumpers, the mainstream media, or the Democrat leadership
Donald Trump has a website that is basically a source for his followers to receive his short messages so that they might retweet or repost them on Twitter or Facebook. It;s called From the Desk of Donald J. Trump and can be found here. These are his three most recent messages (as of me writing this):
From May 5th, 11:45 am:
Liz Cheney is a warmongering fool who has no business in Republican Party Leadership. We want leaders who believe in the Make America Great Again movement, and prioritize the values of America First. Elise Stefanik is a far superior choice, and she has my COMPLETE and TOTAL endorsement for GOP Conference Chair. Elise is a tough and smart communicator!
From May 5th, 11:21 am:
What Facebook, Twitter, and Google have done is a total disgrace and an embarrassment to our Country. Free Speech has been taken away from the President of the United States because the Radical Left Lunatics are afraid of the truth, but the truth will come out anyway, bigger and stronger than ever before. The People of our Country will not stand for it! These corrupt social media companies must pay a political price, and must never again be allowed to destroy and decimate our Electoral Process.
From May 5th, 9:51 am:
Warmonger Liz Cheney, who has virtually no support left in the Great State of Wyoming, continues to unknowingly and foolishly say that there was no Election Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election when in fact, the evidence, including no Legislative approvals as demanded by the U.S. Constitution, shows the exact opposite. Had Mike Pence referred the information on six states (only need two) back to State Legislatures, and had gutless and clueless MINORITY Leader Mitch McConnell (he blew two seats in Georgia that should have never been lost) fought to expose all of the corruption that was presented at the time, with more found since, we would have had a far different Presidential result, and our Country would not be turning into a socialist nightmare! Never give up!
This is an ex-President (too bad he’s not a surfer), ranting and raving about an election that he lost, about the fact that he can’t post idiotic screeds on social media, about specific people whom he blames for his current situation. It’s embarrassing; calling him a lunatic at this point it probably unfair to actual lunatics.
But as bad as Trump is, his most ardent supporters are even worse. One would think that they would realize they’re being used, that they’re participants in a cult of personality, but somehow they don’t. They have become “mind-numbed robots.” a term coined by Rush Limbaugh as a means of mocking the Left for thinking conservatives all thought in lockstep. They’re still imagining the 2020 Election was stolen, they believe everything Trump and his mouthpieces say, and they are unable to even consider a dissenting opinion.
Yet, Trump’s biggest haters—the Never Trumpers who like to pretend that they’re conservatives—are not much better. Really, they’re worse. And that’s because most of them are no different than Trump, himself, insofar as they running a con, they’re relentlessly attacking all things Trump because it gets them the attention, power, and money that they seek. Whether or not they’re actually helping the country is of no consideration to most of them (maybe it’s a distant consideration to a few). I detailed some of these awful people previously.
And that brings us to the mainstream media, which seems to be largely made up of people who think the sun rises and sets because of the Democratic Party. I mean, look at this embarrassing crap:
There’s not even a pretense of impartiality from Wemple, a WaPo reporter. But as bad as his comment is, the piece he’s citing from The Washingtonian is even worse. Look at the nonsense of that opening line, “Half of America is smitten with Jen Psaki.” Please. Over half of America has no idea who she is. Of those who do know who she is, many probably have no opinion, whatsoever, while many like or or dislike her to varying degrees. I would say that the number of people “smitten” with her is roughly the same as the number of people who hate her (which is an equally stupid position to take on a press secretary). What we’re talking about here is a tiny sliver of the general population, but a good chunk of the liberal twitterati (while the haters are members of the MAGA crowd). Oh, and most of the Washington press corps, of course. They’re definitely smitten.
They’re also definitely dimly lit clowns, but that seems to be a precondition of employment, these days. Think I’m overstating things? Well, consider my previous piece, where I detailed how the mainstream media was now freely reporting gossip, without bothering to confirm actual facts. Consider how members of the press go out of their way to cover for each other, these days. That’s a supposed journalist—Michel Martin of NPR—interviewing Glenn Kessler of WaPo about a piece Kessler wrote wherein he went after Representative Tim Scott by questioning the story Scott tells about his family history. Kessler—a supposed “fact-checker” who investigates claims made my politicians, then rates their veracity—didn’t even give the Scott claim a rating, largely because his investigation was mostly a series of suppositions. Moreover, in the current environs it would be quite easy to see Kessler’s entire piece as an exercise in white privilege; surely, such a claim would have been commonplace if Kessler was a conservative commentator going after a black Democrat. Yet, that didn’t happen. Again, journalists like Martin simply gave Kessler a pass. More embarrassment.
Finally, there is the Democrat leadership. From the official twitter account of the DNC:
Talk about living rent-free in someone’s head, could the people at the DNC be any more obsessed with Trump? Really, they’re more obsessed than many of Trump’s biggest supporters. The guy is not a current office holder, is not in any position of actual authority in the US Government. He is just a private citizen. Yet, the DNC finds it appropriate to target him with a tweet like this? Disgusting and embarrassing.
Where does that leave me? There are, of course, some politicians on the right who walk a path between the MAGA crowd and the Never-Trumpers. But it’s a perilous path, to be sure, as they tend to catch shit from both sides, one way or another. Still, they’re out there. Hopefully, there will be more of them in the near future, as Trump eventually fades from the public discourse (something that can’t happen fast enough, imo; if Trump actually carried about the country, he’d take a giant step back).
On the Democrat side…its weird, but I have to respect the real progressives, like Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez, even if I disagree vehemently with some of their positions. At least they’re consistent, when it comes to issues like the border and tax breaks. The leadership of the Democratic Party is anything but consistent on such issues. And they’re being openly aided in their hypocrisy by the mainstream media.
And that sucks, too, having no reliable news sites. So I’m left with RealClearPolitics, where I can at least get a sampling of stories from different points of view. Well, that and independent journalists like Matt Taibbi and Glenn Greenwald, along with certain writers at conservative publications, like Mollie Hemingway and Jonah Goldberg. I don’t always agree with any of these people, but at least I know they’re not card-carrying idiots or mouthpieces for a political party (or a faction thereof).
Still, it’s a lonely world, politically speaking. But then some would say it’s no more than I deserve, as the last true Hobbesian…
